Right then, a little bit about me… I advise companies on how to integrate social media into their public relations campaigns.

As well as consultancy I do a spot of speaking and training on this topic, helping companies understand the multitude of tools available online and how they can make them work for their clients.

Social media-wise I’ve been blogging since 2007, I’m a Twitter fanatic (in fact, I ran the Yorkshire CCC account for the 2009 season) and I also have a burgeoning Linked In profile. If I’m not reading other people’s blogs or Tweets, I’m penning my own and along with most Y Gens, I’m on Facebook several times a day.

PR-wise I have quite varied experience – I’m currently a PR researcher, helping with you’ve guessed it PR research, however I also help out with PR consultancy, training and education. I’ve also do some freelance work and have done a stint in an agency, as well as the press office of a famous cricket club and a university that was always in the news. From these roles i’m adept at writing and ‘selling in’ news releases, dealing with media enquiries, writing copy for corporate websites, publications and e-newsletters, getting news in the press and keeping some things out.

This experience has helped me develop a good eye for a story and when it comes to writing, I've been told I can 'write a great headline, sub-head and body of text'. But please, don't take my colleague's word for it - have a look at my
e-portfolio. Coupled with this, as a daily user of social media I’m confident I know the correct channels in order to distribute, agitate and get stuff into people’s faces online.

I am a strong and clear communicator, so am confident in my ability to convey web ideas to clients. Having worked at Yorkshire CCC – explaining web things to the committee or members has been a common occurrence, so in this respect I think I have the ability to convey technical information in layman’s terms.

I’m familiar with Word Press, Stat Counter and Google Analytics and have used these programmes to monitor the traffic to my PR blog and website. I consider myself to have a reasonable understanding of SEO and web development and a firm grasp of social media.

By the way, I’ve recently had some letters published in the Letters page of PR Week discussing PR degrees and digital PR. I feel this demonstrates my ability to write concisely and effectively, as well as producing something of interest! On the subject of degrees – I have a 2:1, BA (Hons) Public Relations degree from Leeds Met.
